ART PROJECT (A)

Draw or paint your favourite scene from The Weird Adventures of Virgo Capella. You can also do a collage.

Before you start, here are a few helpful reminders.

1. If you make a mistake, don’t fret. Mistakes can help you learn. Can you erase it? Or colour or paint over it, or glue something to cover it up?

2. If you find it hard, keep in mind that it takes time and practice to train your brain and hands.

3. Colours can convey emotions. For eg. red can mean love or anger. Blue is a quiet colour. Green is calming. Yellow is bright like the sun and can mean happiness and joy.

4. Remember to ask yourself: Where is my eye level? Where am I standing in this scene? This will help in drawing perspective.

In a short artist’s statement tell us why the scene was important to the story. And why it was your favourite.

a) Include facts about your art materials (paint, coloured pencils etc.); how you made it.

b) Did you have any trouble creating this piece? If so, how did you overcome the challenge?

c) What did you do well? What could you have done better?

d) What did you learn?

You can also view this in the downloadable file. See below.

Is it Magic or is it Science?

A cardboard paper towel tube works great for this trick. Or you can roll up a sheet of paper into the same shape.
Hold the tube in front of one eye, and with both eyes look at something in the distance (approx. 10 ft away). Hold your free hand up in front of the other eye.
Do you see a round hole in the palm of your hand? The object that you were looking at a few seconds before should now show through.
That’s right, it’s an optical trick.”
